Abstract

Geothermal energy is generally found in areas with magmatic or volcanic activity, because these areas provide deep natural heat sources. As an alternative energy that is environmentally friendly and renewable, geothermal energy is a potential solution to overcome the limited supply of energy from fossil sources such as oil and gas. Geothermal energy can be used as a power plant, especially to meet the increasing need for electricity along with technological advances and population growth. Geothermal potential can be analyzed through a number of important parameters, such as reservoir depth, temperature, and pressure. In this study, the finite difference numerical method is used to map the heat distribution based on initial temperature data. The simulation was carried out in two-dimensional conditions under constant thermal conduction. By entering initial temperature data of 230°C, a visual depiction of the heat distribution pattern in the medium is obtained. This study provides a useful initial approach to estimating the geothermal energy potential at a location.
