Urban farming offers an alternative solution by enabling the productive and environmentally friendly use of limited spaces. This community service program aimed to empower local residents to cultivate organic lettuce on small plots through counseling, demonstration, and hands-on practice. The activities were conducted in Padangsidimpuan, involving lecturers and students as facilitators. The growing medium consisted of a mixture of soil, rice husk, and cattle manure at a 1:1:1 ratio, while liquid organic fertilizer was applied, and plants were grown in pots with a capacity of approximately 5 kg. The stages of implementation included preparation of the growing medium, seedling, transplanting, maintenance, organic pest and disease management, and collective harvesting. The results indicated an improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills related to urban farming techniques and organic lettuce cultivation, perform proper planting techniques, and understand principles of non-chemical crop care and pest control. Most plants exhibited good growth and were ready for harvest 30–35 days after transplanting. Beyond producing healthy vegetables, the program increased community motivation to utilize home yards as a source of household food self-sufficiency.
2026-01-11T02:50:13+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 SOCIETAS https://jurnalugn.id/index.php/SOCIETAS/article/view/1722 Sosialisasi Penerapan Pembelajaran Interaktif berbasis digital dalam peningkatan intelektual siswa di SMA Negeri 1 Angkola Barat Tahun Pelajaran 2025-2026 2026-01-25T14:01:53+00:00 Drs. On the other hand, this pest has the potential to be utilized as a raw material for environmentally friendly liquid organic fertilizer (LOF). This community service activity aimed to improve farmers’ knowledge and skills in utilizing golden apple snails as liquid organic fertilizer through a simple fermentation process. The implementation methods included socialization, training, hands-on practice, and assistance for farmer groups. The LOF production process used fresh golden apple snails, molasses or palm sugar, water, and effective microorganisms (EM4), which were fermented for 7–14 days. The results showed an improvement in participants’ understanding and skills in producing liquid organic fertilizer made from golden apple snails. Participants were able to independently carry out the production process and understand the proper application of LOF to crops. This activity also received positive responses from the community, as it helped reduce the population of golden apple snails while providing an affordable and easily produced alternative organic fertilizer.
