Abstract

 The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of different types of packaging on the shelf life of salak sidimpuan fruit (Salacca sumatrana Becc). This study was conducted in the laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Graha Nusantara University, Padangsidimpuan, this study was conducted from February to March 2025. The results of this study are the effect of different types of packaging on the shelf life of salak sidimpuan fruit (Salacca sumatrana Becc) showing that cardboard packaging, polyethylene plastic packaging are packaging that provides a significantly different effect on all observed parameters. in the percentage of weight loss, the lowest amount of fruit loss (9.40%) is significantly different from other packaging, the highest amount of fruit rot (27.52%), the lowest fruit rot 0.00, the highest total soluble solids (20.21◦Brix). In contrast, cardboard packaging, salak chopstick packaging, and without packaging provide the lowest shelf life in most parameters. Based on the results of the study, it shows that the type of packaging has a significant effect on the quality of salak sidimpuan fruit. Thus, cardboard packaging and polyethylene plastic packaging can be recommended as the best packaging for the shelf life of salak sidimpuan fruit.
